Welding-fume extraction testing: a clear result and practical maintenance priorities
A fabrication workshop used a central extraction system serving movable welding hoods and a plasma-cutting table. Premier LEV examined the system to assess its condition and performance and identify the actions needed to keep it working effectively.
The assessment combined inspection, airflow measurements and smoke visualisation. A simulated operation at the plasma-cutting table allowed the examiner to observe the extraction during the check. The report recorded the system as satisfactory with advisories.
Those advisories gave the business specific maintenance and operating priorities: empty the collection bin, clear build-up from the cutting bed, add airflow indicators at the hoods, and establish accessible system instructions and a logbook. The report also specified suitable respiratory protective equipment as part of the site's controls.
The value of the examination was a recorded assessment and a practical action list. The report does not establish that every recommended action was subsequently completed, and no improvement percentage or before-and-after exposure reduction is claimed.
If your workshop uses welding or cutting extraction, send Premier LEV your system details and previous report to discuss an LEV examination.
