Fume-cupboard commissioning: testing the system under different operating conditions

A newly installed laboratory extraction system needed to demonstrate how it performed when its fume cupboards were used individually and together. Premier LEV carried out the initial examination and testing, checking the cupboards, connecting ductwork, fan and automatic airbleed arrangement.

The examination included airflow measurements and smoke visualisation, with different cupboard combinations assessed. The report records satisfactory operation across the combinations tested and confirms that the airbleed opened and closed appropriately.

The result was a documented assessment of the installation, supported by operating advice: keep cupboard sashes below their marked working height and maintain a system logbook for checks and maintenance.

No hazardous substances were present during commissioning, so the assessment used simulated conditions. The result describes those test conditions rather than a measurement of exposure during every future laboratory activity.
