Microbiological Safety Cabinet Testing

Premier LEV arranges microbiological safety cabinet testing through specialist engineers. We help laboratories plan an assessment around the cabinet type, its installation and the work it supports, with a clear scope and written findings.

Checks matched to your cabinet

Cabinet classes and airflow arrangements provide different forms of protection. Send the manufacturer, model, cabinet class, serial number and previous test report so the specialist can identify the appropriate checks and acceptance criteria. The scope may include airflow measurements, visual inspection, indicators and alarms, filter integrity and operator-protection testing where applicable.

We agree which tests are included before attendance. A filter test alone is not a complete assessment of cabinet containment, and airflow readings alone do not establish operator protection.

KI-Discus operator-protection testing

For suitable open-fronted cabinets, KI-Discus testing assesses protection at the working aperture using a potassium iodide challenge. It can help evaluate how the cabinet performs in the agreed test arrangement. Room air movement, nearby equipment and the cabinet setup can affect performance, so operating conditions and any limitations are recorded.

Prepare for the visit

Tell us what materials are handled, whether the cabinet is ducted or recirculating, and whether it has been relocated, repaired or had a filter change. Agree any decontamination, isolation, access and downtime requirements with the specialist before work starts. Cabinet testing does not replace your laboratory risk assessment or operating procedures.

Reports and follow-up

Your agreed report records the cabinet, tests completed, conditions, results and recommended actions. Any restrictions or tests outside the visit scope should be clear. Premier LEV coordinates the enquiry and specialist attendance, and can discuss remedial work and any subsequent retesting separately.

Send your cabinet details and previous report. Looking for product-protection equipment instead? See laminar-flow cabinet testing.
